BLENHEIM PALACE (2)

Blenheim Palace, near Oxford, stands in a romantic park created by the famous landscape gardener 'Capability' Brown. It was presented by the English nation to John Churchill, first Duke of Marlborough, in recognition of his victory in 1704 over French and Bavarian troops. Built between 1705 and 1722 and characterized by an eclectic style and a return to national roots, it is a perfect example of an 18th-century princely dwelling.

Designed in the rare, and short-lived, English Baroque style, architectural appreciation of the palace is as divided today as it was in the 1720s. It is unique in its combined usage as a family home, mausoleum and national monument. The palace is also notable as the birthplace and ancestral home of Sir Winston Churchill.

The building of the palace was a minefield of political intrigue by Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough. Following the palace's completion, it became the home of the Churchill family for the next 300 years, and various members of the family have in that period wrought various changes, in the interiors, park and gardens. At the end of the 19th century, the palace was saved from ruin by funds gained from the 9th Duke of Marlborough's marriage to American railroad heiress Consuelo Vanderbilt. The exterior of the palace remains in good repair.

This painting of eyes are said to be those of the wife of the 9th Duke of Marlborough, Gladys.

BLENHEIM PALACE (1)

(from wiki)

Blenheim Palace is  is the only non-royal non-episcopal country house in England to hold the title of palace. Its construction was originally intended to be a gift to John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, from a grateful nation in return for military triumph against the French and Bavarians at the Battle of Blenheim. However, it soon became the subject of political infighting, which led to Marlborough's exile, the fall from power of his duchess, and irreparable damage to the reputation of the architect Sir John Vanbrugh.

The palace is magnificent but so is the garden!

NASH HOUSE

Nash's House was named after Thomas Nash, first husband of Shakespeare's granddaughter, Elizabeth. Today, it is a well preserved Tudor building and the ground floor is furnished as it would have been in Nash's day.

Next door to Nash's House are the foundations of New Place, the house bought by William Shakespeare in 1597. By this time, Shakespeare was an established playwright and had amassed enough wealth to afford this elaborate new family home. New Place was the second biggest house in Stratford at the time and it was where Shakespeare lived when he was not in London. He chose to return to this house in later life, so this is the site where we believe Shakespeare wrote some of his later works such as The Tempest. He eventually died here in 1616.

ANNE HATHAWAY'S COTTAGE, Stratford-Upon-Avon

Anne Hathaway's Cottage is a twelve-roomed farmhouse where Anne Hathaway, the wife of William Shakespeare, lived as a child in the village of Shottery, Warwickshire, England, about 1.6 km west of Stratford-upon-Avon. Although it is often called a cottage, it is, in fact, a spacious twelve-roomed farmhouse, with several bedrooms, now set in extensive gardens. It was known as Newlands Farm in Shakespeare's day and had more than 360,000 m2 of land attached to it. As in many houses of the period, it has multiple chimneys to spread the heat evenly throughout the house during winter. The largest chimney was used for cooking. It also has visible timber framing, a trademark of vernacular Tudor style architecture.Spacious, and with several bedrooms, it is now set in extensive gardens.

SHAKESPEARE'S BIRTHPLACE, Stratford-Upon-Avon

(from wiki)
William Shakespeare (26 April 1564 (baptised) – 23 April 1616) was an English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon".His extant works, including some collaborations, consist of about 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few other verses, the authorship of some of which is uncertain. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright

What I don't like about this place is, they don't even know if the information they provide us is true..most of the info included the word 'probably'..
So Shakespeare was probably born here and probably educated here and there etc..Thing is, we know so little about him..
That's why the plcae seems to be somewhat.. fake..

                           No need to guess..it's Shakespeare!

MY FIRST PUB EXPERIENCE! (Stratford-upon-Avon)

It was my first time to have a drink at a pub!

The oldest pub in Stratford-Upon-Avon! Since 1470!

                                              Cozy interior
